How to publish on this site
A sample post that doubles as the house style guide. Delete it once the first real piece is out.
This is a sample post. It exists so the front page has something to show and so the house style is written down somewhere other than a chat log.
How a post gets published
Drop a markdown file into src/content/insights/, name it
YYYY-MM-DD-short-slug.md, fill in the front matter, commit. The build turns
it into a page, adds it to the archive, the RSS feed and the search index. There
is no CMS to log into and no database to keep alive.
House style
- Lead with what happened. The analysis comes second.
- Name the source for every number. If it is an estimate, say whose.
- Prefer the regional name for a thing, with a gloss on first use.
- No press-release verbs. Nobody “leverages” anything.
- Length is whatever the story needs, usually 600 to 1,200 words.
What to watch
Whether the first ten posts hold this line. They usually do not, which is why it is written down.
